I'll Leave the Light On

I woke up this morning

Same old questions in my head

At least the weather's getting cooler now

No longer forced to leave my bed

The sun shines through my window

Makes my old house creak and moan

Reminds me of the old lady down the market

Sitting in the sun, stretching her weary bones

And I'll leave the light on

So you can see

I'll leave the light on

Should you decide to visit me

Time is time and time is time and time just rolls along

It's with you every second

Though it has no shape or form

Sometimes I get so anxious

As your path leads you away

But I know it's only my loneliness

And it passes with the day

I've been an angry and a jealous man

And I have no right to be

Perhaps it's just my wicked, wicked ways

Catching up to me

Still I've done my time

And I've paid the price

After all what's just a little pain

If I learn from my mistakes

Then my loss becomes my gain

Still I'll leave the light on

So you can see

I'll leave the light on

Should you decide to visit me

This is the end that is no end

With the beginning yet to come

I'm going to throw the doors wide open

I'm going to let my spirit run

I'm going to take the path that is most yielding

And in time my steps shall disappear

I'll pound my head against the wall no more

I'll be still so I can hear

And if I drop all my pretensions

About how much you broke my heart

I really do feel grateful

As we drift further apart

I will follow my distant vision

I'm going to listen to my voice

You showed me the way to freedom

You really made the only choice

And so you see

I'll leave the light on

Should you decide

Should you ever decide to visit me
