She walked her down to the long,wet grass

Then she slipped out of her raincoat

She held her softly till the wind had passed

Then she put her down so slowly

The water splashed the blanket

Then she pulled her hands away

And let the river take what she'd carried

She ran back up the road she'd always take

And then she stopped to catch her breath

There in the distance the traffic honked and roared
